Homemade Granola Bars

Jen Coleman

Have you every wanted to make a better Granola Bar that was good for you instead of the ones from the store .. As a mom of 3 kids I'm always looking to take what they like and make it better .. As a kid I loved eating Granola bars they were all ways so good and easy to grab and stick in my lunch .. Now that I'm a mom and I have a child that has ADHD I try to make things that are better and less processed for him . These bars are so good and you can add different things into them like nuts and cut up fruits .. I hope you will give them a try and see if your kids will like them or just make them for you ..

INGREDIENTS:

1). 1 cup of a creamy peanut Butter ( use the kind with no sugar in the peanut Butter so you are not adding more sugar to the Bars

2). 1/2 cup of Honey ( or 1/2 cup of agave syrup )

3). 3 1/2 cups of old fashioned rolled oats

4). 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

5). 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

6). up to a cup of dried fruit , nuts, or mini chocolate chips ( I have used the reg chocolate chips they work fine they are just bigger and you may not like the texture of the regular size chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS:

1). grab yourself a cookie sheet and preheat your oven to 350 degrees .. place the oats in a single layer on the cookie sheet .. Then you will want to place the cookie sheet in the oven for about 10mins or so .. You just want to toast the oats to a light golden color .

2). After the oats come out of the oven you will want to after they cool off place them in a big mixing bowl . Then mix in the peanut butter, honey, salt, and the cinnamon in a bowl . Once all the ingredients are mixed in then go ahead and add in your dried fruit, nuts or chocolate chips into the mixture ..

3). I found it better if you take a sheet of parchment paper and you will want to place it in a 9x9 pan .. Make sure the edges are hanging over the side of the pan this way it will make it easy to lift the bars out of the pan . Take the ingredients from the bowl and place the mixture into the pan . Then you will want to press the mixture into an even layer into the pan .

4). After you are done pressing the mixture you can either put the bars into the Freezer for about 10mins or you can put them in the fridge . You are doing this so that the bars will set up. Once the bars are chilled you them can lift the bars out of the pan and then you will want to cut them into squares . You should get about 14 bars depending on how big you want to cut them in size ..

5). Once you have cut them you will want to place them in a air tight container they should be good for about 3 weeks in you store them in the fridge i have found .. !!
