Who would not love to wake up on a Saturday morning and take homemade bread or your choice of bread and make a French Toast bake in the morning .. It is one of the most thing my kids ask me to make a lot .. Well this year I took the normal way I make french toast and I used homemade eggnog instead of reg milk . I know you might say I don't like eggnog and I know it is either you like it or you don't . if you don't like it you can use reg milk . If you do use eggnog it will be very rich and it will also have the flavor of the eggnog stand out a lot . That is why I will tell you if you don't like the taste or you are not a fan of eggnog to use reg milk in this dish .. The best way I like to make this dish is the night before and let it sit over night in the fridge and it is so good that way . It will let the milk or eggnog soak into the bread and it makes it so good in the morning .
Ingredients:
Butter for Greasing the pan
1 Loaf of good homemade bread or a good Hearty Bread
8 whole eggs
2 cups of eggnog or whole milk
1/2 cup of heavy Whipping Cream
1/2 cup of granulated Sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 Table spoons vanilla extract
Topping:
1/2 cups of Flour
1/2 cups of brown sugar
1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1 stick of butter
Directions:
1): one take a 9x13 baking dish and butter the whole pan
2): Take 8 whole eggs and put them into a bowl
3): Lightly beat the 8 eggs in the bowl
4:) in a large bowl you will want to dump the 8 eggs in and then add 2 cups of Eggnog then lightly beat the eggs and the eggnog together . ( if you don't like eggnog you can use reg milk , whole milk , skim milk or what ever you like ..
5:) To the 8 egg mixture with the eggnog in their you will want to add 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream , 1/2 cup of granulated sugar , 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 2 Tablespoons of vanilla extract . Then go head and beat the all together .
6:) Then take your 9x13 pan that you have greased with butter or you can spray it with Pam or anything you like to do ..
7:) Take your loaf of bread and I like to cut it into squares or I will rip the bread too into pieces and place into your baking dish .
8:) Then Take your egg mixture and dump into the baking dish over the bread
Topping Directions :
In a small bowl 1/2 cup of flour to that you will want to add your 1/2 cup of brown sugar ,1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 of salt . Mix all that up and then take your baking dish and spread out the mixture over the bread and egg mixture . Then with your stick of butter I like to cut it into squares place your little butter squares all over the top of the egg and bread mixture .. then take and cover and place into the fridge ..
9:) When ready to bake you will want to heat your oven to 350 and bake it for 45 mins . If you like not really soft and like it more firm then you will want to cook it for about 1hr in the oven
This is what it should look like right before you put into the oven to bake . I have made this and baked it off right away and it still comes out wonderful .. Either way Enjoy and I hope this will becomes one of your new recipe your family will enjoy !
